About Us

The founder, Shannon Schoville, opened this establishment in July of 2019. Creekside Music Academy came about through the combination of discussion among musical friends and colleagues, good fortune, and the support of a spouse. Shannon was born and raised in Clinton, WI. She has come and gone from this area since 2003, but came home again in 2016. Over her years in other areas of the country, after teaching in a variety of settings, came an idea in the back of her mind about what may be possible.  In early 2019 fortune brought her together with downtown building owner Beth Pohl, who is also a musician, and discussions between the two, led them to open Creekside Music Academy. 

 

Today, Shannon has handed over the music academy to Karen Koyama, who is the piano instructor here at Creekside. Karen is part of the faculty at Beloit College, teaching piano and has been involved in the downtown Beloit community since 2018 when she opened Nine Bells and Cat Tails. She is excited and looking forward to continuing the level of excellence in musical education that is offered here through Creekside Music Academy.

The idea behind Creekside is to bring trained music educators together with students in a facility specifically to offer private instruction on individual instruments in a comfortable setting.  The faculty at Creekside all hold a minimum of a Bachelor degree in their respective instruments, and all perform on a professional level.  We teach all ages and ability levels, with a focus on reading and understanding not just the music but also the sentiment behind the music. We also place heavy emphasis on technique and how each instrument functions and can be maintained at optimum level.

Currently, we offer lessons in violin/strings, drums, percussion, piano, woodwinds, brass and voice.  We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Beloit community in the years to come.
